After the successful jointly organized ELLIS Summer School with the ELLIS Unit Jena and the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in Jena (September 1–5, 2025), we are excited to continue this collaboration with a second edition: a joint ELLIS Winter School 2026, taking place March 16–20 in Athens, Greece.
The ELLIS Winter School 2026 brings together leading experts, researchers, and motivated young scientists for a five-day immersive program dedicated to the latest advances in artificial intelligence for Earth system science, natural hazards, and climate extremes. Co-organized with the ELLIS Unit Jena and the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), the ELLIS Winter School 2026 is hosted by the MeDiTwin and AI4PEX projects (both funded through the Horizon Europe Program).
The ELLIS Winter School 2026 combines theoretical lectures, hands-on training, and real-world applications. Participants will explore cutting-edge AI methods to improve the modelling, understanding, and impact assessment of extreme environmental events—bridging fundamental research with operational and societal needs. Whether you are a Master’s or PhD student, postdoctoral researcher, or early-career professional, this ELLIS Winter School offers a unique opportunity to deepen your expertise, collaborate across disciplines, and engage with a community shaping the future of AI for the Earth system.
